It is the thing women want more for their skin in his day and age…a fresh, natural, healthy glow. It is well known that the best way to get that started is to moisturise regularly. However, moisturising can itself be quite an art and it’s possible to moisturise your skin ineffectively. This post will address the best way to moisturise the skin, best products to use and when to moisturise.
When to Moisturise:
It’s not a good idea to moisturise randomly as this will just lead to a waste of moisturiser. Moisturising should be part of your daily routine and should coincide with when your skin in clean and fresh. Furthermore, it is best to moisturise your skin straight after a shower to be most effective. This is especially true for very dry parts of the body such as knees, elbows and ankles.
Effective Moisturising:
My dermatologist once told me that the best time to moisturise is straight after coming out of the shower/ bath when the skin is still wet. 5 minutes later, he insists, is too late. And so the routine began of moisturising with a body milk immediately after the shower. Give it time to soak into your skin before you dry off with a towel or put any clothes on. Also, use a different product for your face than what you use for the rest of your body. The best products, I find, for this post shower moisturising ritual are ones which are quite liquid and silky….it’s not nice to slather on something thick and gloopy after a shower. The reason that it’s best to moisturise skin when it’s wet is because the cream itself doens’t provide the moisture but instead helps to trap moisture that’s already there. Therefore, to moisturise, dry, cacked skin with no moisture in it, is completely ineffective. Moisturising when there’s still water on the skin, traps the water and allows it to soak in to the skin more readily, thus having a positive and healthy effect.
Best Moisturising Products:
The best moisturising products are definately those developed by well reknowed companies such as Clinique and Mac. The moisturising products they have are specific enough to be suitable to the eyes or the neck only. They are specialised and quite expensive. Whilst it’s a great idea to treat your facial skin with products such as these if you can afford it, it’s not necessary to break the bank to get great look, moisutrised skin. There are a number of products for facial moisturising made by places such as The Make Up Store and Olay which will do an excellent job. These would not exceed aroun $20 – $30.
When it comes to moisturising the rest of your body, you want something quite liquid and silky as mentioned before. The best products for this can definately be found in the supermarket and the one which is most effective is Dove Rich Nourishing Beauty Body Lotion. Another great option is to head to the body shop and pick up a moisturising milk in one of their many delicious flavours….you’re skin will feel and look great and smell stunning to boot!
Stunning, Glowing, Healthy Skin:
The best way to have beautiful looking skin in the moisturise regularly and reoutinely but not randomly. Ensure the skin is always at least damp when applying moisturiser and make sure you look after not only your face, but your whole body. And remember…..it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg!
Happy Moisturising!
