The British weather is definitely unpredictable, and sometimes it can feel like we don’t get a summer (what with the consistent rain). But when the weather starts hotting up and the kids start doing acrobatics in your swimming pool – it’s definitely a sign to take time out and relax in the gorgeous sunshine. As a parent, safety is always at the forefront of your mind, and when water is involved it’s not surprising.
Although you may claim to have eyes in the back of your head, or to have your very own Mad-Eye Moody eye ball – you can’t watch your children all of the time. It is for this reason that certain precautions should be taken to ensure that your children come to no harm while enjoying the cooling swimming pool.
Keeping a Close Eye Behind Goggles
Kids – they love splashing around, and generally getting up to mischief. One way to keep them on the straight and narrow and out of potential danger is to never let them out of your sight. Okay, we all know this is easier said than done but there are few techniques you can use.
Firstly, if the doorbell rings, never answer it without making sure that someone is watching your children. If no one is, leave it or take your kids with you. This is the same with a telephone call; one tip which has worked for many a parent is to take a wireless phone or mobile outside. If they want to talk to you that badly, they will call again or try your mobile.
Taking the Plunge
Give your children the best possible protection in life, and get them swimming lessons. Not only will it get them out from under your feet, but it means they can learn a valuable life lesson. You never know when your child may come into contact with water, and if they can swim you are offering them the best possible chance of remaining safe.
The better equipped they are to swim, the more fun you can have making waves!
Avoid Making A Splash
If you have children, you will undoubtedly have tripped over their toys on numerous occasions, and while this is okay in the security of your home, outdoors is a different matter. Tripping around water could end in disaster. Even if your children know how to swim, if they accidentally fall in a swimming pool, the shock could make them forget all their training and they may panic.
To stop this from happening, keep toys and swimming pool accessories in a designated box. In addition to this, make sure that you have non-slip tiles surrounding the pool edge, and if you really want to protect your children, invest in swimming pool fencing. This surrounds the pool, and if you opt for a gate you can control when your children have a leisurely dip.
Safety Equipment
It may not have crossed your mind, but at your local swimming pool supplier you can find safety equipment. This can include floatation devices, emergency lifebelts and swimming pool covers. You never know when you might need them, and it’s nice just to have them there ‘just in case’, even if you never end up using them.
Having a splash around in the privacy of your back garden is fantastic, and as a parent there is nothing better than watching your children having fun. With the right attitude and equipment like swimming pool covers and lifebelts – you and your family are able to enjoy a summer that is safe. So – what are you waiting for?
