There are ways you can make your flying time pleasant and safe by following a few travel tips. Here are ten tips that will help anyone have an easier time at the airport, a less stressful check-in and a more comfortable flight.
- Always reconfirm your reservations the day before. Sometimes flights change at the last minute or names get dropped from lists for no apparent reason.
- Try to book the flights that depart early in the day. This will reduce the chance that you will have a cancelled flight in the evening and be delayed overnight. Afternoon flights are cancelled more often than morning flights.
- Check in as soon as the gate opens. This means arriving at the airport early. You may be in the airport longer, but if the flight is oversold, and this happens a lot, you won’t be the passenger left behind.
- Always carry a photo ID that has the same name as the name on your ticket. A driver’s license or passport is best.
- Luggage, especially checked luggage, should have your name and address on the outside and the inside including your laptop bag. Outside labels can get removed, and if your luggage is lost, the inside tag will give a better chance it will be returned to you.
- If your luggage is damaged or missing when you arrive, report it immediately to the airline customer service. At that moment, it is easier to trace.
- If you have a choice of airports for a connecting flight, always choose an airport that is less busy. Your plane is more likely to land on time, and you will not miss your connecting flight.
- When the plane is ascending or descending there will be air pressure changes. Swallowing frequently, chewing gum or yawning can relieve the pressure that builds in your ears. Babies should nurse, drink from a bottle or have a pacifier at these times.
- To pass through the security check with the minimum of hassle try to avoid carrying or wearing any metal including jewellery, keys, change, cell phones, shoes with steel tips, buckles or nails. Avoid metal buttons, snaps and belt buckles.
- Check the airline luggage policy before you pack. Your trip will go a lot smoother if you know how many bags you are allowed, what size the carry-on should be and how much they can weigh. Not only will your check-in be quicker, you will not have to pay the large fees for overweight luggage. One good rule is not to pack more than you can carry and never leave your luggage unattended or with a stranger.
