Traveling is a perfect way to escape the daily hustle and bustle of the busy and restless world. Through traveling, you get to relax and leave everything behind like your stressful workplace. Breathe in, breathe out. But what if you are a woman who is traveling alone? Well, don’t stress yourself too much by thinking about this girlfriend! This post has great tips for women who are traveling all by themselves.
Based on my experience, traveling alone can force you to step outside of your comfort zone. That thought can be quite scary for shy ladies like you but don’t you worry. Equip yourself with the travel tips in this post.
- Before your scheduled trip, learn a thing or two about how to protect yourself. If possible, enroll yourself in a self-defense class. You will not regret taking this class as you can use all that you have learned for as long as you live. A little hint: the most fragile parts that you can hit are the eyes, throat, nose, knees, and groin.
- Find information about your destination. Examples of the vital information you need are the best and safest places to go to, hotels, police stations near the area you are visiting, routes, their customs, and the attitudes the locals have towards foreign visitors. You can buy a book or a map ahead of time so that you can study this thoroughly or you can use the internet.
- Plan ahead of time. You can book your hotel or pick which places to go to so you have a clear idea of what you will do once you get there. With a small amount of preparation, panic and confusion will be avoided.
- As soon as you get to where you are staying, pick a room that is not on the ground floor. Why? The reason is that rooms on the ground floor can be easily broken into by forcing the windows open and by other means.
- Be friends with the receptionist. Yes, you read it right. The receptionist can help you find your way around the place. He or she can help you by giving tips about the best places to eat or the worst streets to go to. Notify the receptionist about your whereabouts. Best of all, you can give him or her an emergency number to contact in case something unfortunate happens.
- Use your peep hole. Peep before opening your hotel door or let a person identify himself before letting him in. Or better yet, do not open your door to strangers.
- Blend in. Dress according to the culture and standards of the new place so you don’t look like a tourist.
- Be cautious. Don’t just give away too much personal information as strangers can use this to take advantage of you. Most importantly, do not tell them that you are travelling on your own. Talk to them and get to know them better first before entrusting any significant info to your potential assailants.
Now that you know what to do when traveling alone, you can now get back to planning your next getaway. Learn these tips by heart so that you will travel stress-free. Take care and bon voyage!
