How to Deal with Parents

When it comes to parents, people say they do things because they love you.  That is true, even though you may not think so.  I personally have a father who is very strict and have ended up in tears many times, like most people have when they were younger.  So these are my steps to dealing with parents who seem like they don’t listen, or never let you do anything:

#1. When you’re in a situation where your parent/parents won’t let you do something you REALLY want to do, you have a whole bunch of options: You can either scream and yell and do it anyway, Say OK and don’t do it, yell and scream but don’t do it;  Whatever.  My plan is to agree because usually your parents have a benefit from obeying them, or later they’ll let you do it, or maybe something else.

#2. If you do go, and get in trouble, you have no one to blame but yourself. If you listen to them, and don’t benefit from it later, don’t get mad, or upset at them, because then they’ll feel like they can’t trust you to be responsible when they’re not with you… Trust me, you don’t want that.

#3. With parents, you really have to work with them, don’t demand anything, because then they might think that you are just using them. Try to spend some time with them, have a day that you guys go shopping, to the gym, for a walk, or even just staying home and having a movie night, parents love to feel loved.

#4.  If you have a fight with a parent, then give them some time to cool down before going to them. Go into your room and read, go on the computer, go to the beach, maybe a friends house.  Whatever it is, you have to give them time to get their anger to a minimum, so they don’t lose it completely.

#5. If your parents are paranoid about you going places by yourself, then get a cell phone, tell them where you’re going at all times, if they absolutely won’t agree to anything, than there’s nothing you can say to change that, you’ll just have to wait before you’re old enough.

#6. This is the final thing: If you know you’re going to have something coming up that you really want to go to, and you don’t know if you’ll be allowed, then try to show your parents, by doing little things that they can trust you ahead of time.

Thank you for reading, and I hope my suggestions help you!
