Holidays go too quickly in my opinion; they seem like you have to return home as soon as you’ve learnt your way around the resort. Many of us have had that feeling of regret that you should have done more on your holiday. Activities such as sightseeing or venturing into local towns in search of authentic cultures, but this never crosses your mind when you’re lounging around poolside with a burger in your hand.
This guide will help to eradicate that feeling of regret and turn that after-holiday feeling into a contented one where you felt you gained something from your journey apart from relaxation (and if you drink a sore kidney).
Hold up!
Don’t be rushing around like a whirling dervish the night before you’re due to go on holiday! Gradually prepare yourself a month in advance, buy some new clothes on the weekends and make absolutely sure you know where your passport is and double check it just to make sure.
A leisurely flight will set you in a positive frame of mind to begin your holiday.
Research
I’m not sure about other nations but the English (me myself and I) will holiday anywhere as long as there’s sun, sea and lager, but we suffer from the “lost holiday” feeling the most as usually we don’t understand the local cultures or customs (just ask the English couple serving a 2 year jail sentence of kissing on a beach in Dubai which they now know is forbidden!).
So my tip to you is gather more information about where you’re going especially the surrounding area as you may find a place or activity of interest.
Branch out
Back home you wouldn’t stay in your house for an entire week like a hermit so why do it when you’re on holiday? Spend the days by the pool fair enough, but in the evenings head out into the towns and cities, meet new people why not even eat out in an authentic restaurant in which locals eat and trial some traditional cuisine.
Get Involved
Drag yourself out of bed and spend a day participating in something you wouldn’t usually do- this could be camel riding if you visited Egypt or white water rafting if you were visiting Canada, wherever you visit I promise there’ll be something to do you’ve never done before.
Relax…
Remember it’s your holiday too! So instead of mothering your kids or friends leave them to their own devices and take some time out for yourself to do whatever you want!
