Valentines day is just around the corner and already couples are beginning to wonder what to get their other half. For some, a lot of thought has already been placed and perhaps a gift already bought – for others, the idea of finding something in time for the big day is a nerve-racking experience, which is only intensifying the more it’s put off.
Lingerie is a popular valentine’s day gift, and something to consider, particularly if you haven’t used this as a gift idea before. If done right, it can show a great deal of thought and can be a fun, personable present for your significant other. If done badly however, it can come across as tacky and cheap, not the effect you will be looking for. So, in order to ensure that it comes off the right way – no pun intended – the following precautions should be taken.
Sizing
Size is important when it comes to lingerie, that is. You won’t notice any difference if you get the sizing right, but get it wrong and all hell could break loose. A size (or two) to big and you’re suggesting that someone is fatter than they really are, and a size too small and you’re suggesting you wish they were smaller.
The simplest way to get the sizing right is to find a piece of underwear they already own and check the sizing. There is a need to be discrete when checking sizes and you could very easily give your gift idea away.
Taste
Lingerie can be tasteful and it can be tacky. Too tacky can lead you into hot water, while too tasteful is simply a suggestion that she needs new underwear. As with sizing it’s a slipper slope and one that is best avoided.
Obviously when you buy underwear for someone else it should be that little bit special, but even still a good reference point would be to look at some of the underwear she already has and base your decision off that.
