A Podcast is a digital audio file, often in the style of a radio show that is broadcast/distributed on the internet. It’s easy to produce and distribute a podcast and anyone can do it. Here’s how!
You will need
- A microphone. A noise cancelling model will work the best
- Audio editing software
- A website or hosting service to upload your podcast to
- An RSS feed
Steps
1. Decide what you want to talk about. If you intend to keep up podcasting try to choose a topic you’re interested in, and have plenty of ideas and material for. The most popular podcasts tend to be the ones with fresh, regularly updated content.
2. Write a basic script of what you want to say. This will help to avoid empty spaces and long pauses that you will have to edit out later!
3. Find background or intro music for your podcast. You can’t just use any artists songs for this as this would be a violation of copyright law. A good source of copyright free music is http://music.podshow.com
4. Record and edit your podcast. A free program called Audacity is popular - download from here: http://www.audacity.sourcforge.net
5. Convert your file into MP3 format if it’s not already
6.Find somewhere to upload your podcast. There are loads of sites that you can upload your recording to for free, such as www.mypodcast.com . Alternatively, you could set up your own WordPress blog and post your material there using Podpress – www.mightyseek.com/podpress
7. Distribute your podcast by submitting to:
- Podcast search engines found at Podcast411 (www.podcast411.com).
- iTunes – In the iTunes store click on Podcasts, then on the button Submit a Podcast. Enter the URL for the podcast RSS feed you want to add and submit.
