Tips to Ski Like a Pro

skiingSkiing is one of the most popular winter sports. It is exciting and delivers an adrenaline rush that is unique to the sport. Many young people wish that they could ski similar to how the pros on TV and skiing competitions do. However, learning to ski like a pro is not easy. It takes a lot of practice and dedication. Professional skiers practice for hours to improve their skills. The following guidelines will help you understand what it takes to get there.

Get the Right Skiing Gear : Skiing experience is greatly determined by the gear you use. Ski boots, helmets, goggles, bindings and gloves are some of the basic gear you need. This equipment will improve your safety when you ski. Get the proper gear before you start skiing.

Skiing Boots : Skiing boots are one of the most important items of gear any skier must have. The boots determine how comfortable a ski will be and the movements a skier can make while skiing. Therefore, it is important to that boots fit and that they are comfortable . To identify good pair of skiing boots, talk to a professional salesperson who is experienced with skiing gear. When shopping for skiing boots, go for those that will allow you to bend your feet easily without experiencing any pain. Boots that securely hold your heels and ankles in place are the best. If the boots are comfortable, you will be able to make many different moves easily and  ski for a long time without getting toe blisters or experiencing foot burns.

Skis: When shopping for skis, go for those that are wide and short. In addition, ideally their length should  be approximately similar to the distance between your forehead and the chin. Wide and short skis will give you more surface area to balance and make quick movements even in narrow terrain.

The following tips will help you improve your skiing:

a) When you are skiing, make sure you relax your toes. This way, the lower body joints will be able to easily absorb variations within the terrain and make perfect moves. If you are nervous, you may limit your body movements and end up making wrong moves that may be dangerous. b) Concentrate on bending the ankles rather than the knees. Bending the ankles forward will automatically make the knees bend in the same direction. This will enable you to maintain a more stable position and be well balanced.

b) When making a turn, avoid leaning back. Leaning back transfers your body weight from the central position, making you to lose balance. Maintaining your stability and body position when making turns enables you to maintain better control and avoid falling easily.

c) Chunky snow and bumps may toss you around when skiing. However,  rolling your skis immediately when turning rather than flattening, you will improve your control on ice and reduce the chances of falling easily. Moreover, this will make your technique smoother and more fluid.

d) Many skiers fall short of becoming professionals because they allow the uphill ski to go flat and at the same time allow the downhill ski to be on edge. To secure maximum control, both sides should be done simultaneously.

e) Your body position also matters a lot. For example, by keeping your hands forward or by your sides, you will ski rather than curve. Maintaining your hands on the sides or forward makes you more comfortable when skiing and making fluid turns.

f) When skiing, use the poles to improve stabilization when making turns. Professional skiers plant their poles on the side of the skies rather than forward. This way, they can navigate the steeps easily and make smooth turns even in sharp corners.

g) Plan your path well to avoid surprises and remain focused when skiing. Knowing the skiing route will give you an easy time in case there are any obstacles along the way. Moreover, you will be able to maintain speed even when going downhill or uphill.

Self motivation and determination are the keys to becoming a pro. In addition, using the right gear helps to improve performance.
