Summer has definitely come and gone, disappearing behind a rather big, black and rain pouring cloud. So it’s no real surprise that many of you are hitting the shores of beaches in the exotic and luxurious resorts abroad, whether to dismiss the winter chills or to celebrate Christmas somewhere else. If this is the case, then there are some top security tips which are a ‘need to know’, so that you and your belonging are kept safe at all times.
When packing your bags for a holiday abroad, the security of your belongings probably isn’t going to be on the top of your ‘to do list’, yet the reality is, wherever you are in the world crime is a problem, and as such there are a few things which you can do to secure your more expensive items.
So, whether you’re travelling abroad in the gorgeous weather, or you’ve decided to go trekking in the British countryside, equipping yourself with these tips can only help.
Tip One: €10 for a safe? Yes Please!
There’s no point hiding all of your euros in a sock at the bottom of your drawer, we’ve all tried this trick so the likelihood of someone else checking is pretty high. If you have the option of a safe in your room, then why not pay the extra to secure your belongings. It’s usually only 5 or 10 euros and gives you peace of mind that the cleaners aren’t going to run away with your money.
Tip Two: Check towel? Check. Wallet? …
If you’re lucky enough to be jetting abroad to a hot climate that boasts warm sandy beaches, then you need to carefully consider what you do and do not need to take to the beach. If you plan on taking a dip in the sea, make sure someone you trust is looking after your personal possessions, like your money, phone, and camera. If you don’t it makes a great opportunity for a thief.
Tip Three: Err…Where’s the Room Key?
It’s a habit for many of us Brits to treat our room key much like our house key, and this means carrying it with us at all times. The thing is, if you happen to lose your key (we’ve all been there) whether it’s accidental or someone has nabbed it, you’re in a bit of a pickle.
So why not avoid all of this hassle and leave the key with the friendly receptionist in the hotel? It seems simple, but many of us don’t take advantage of the services that are literally in our hotel lobby.
Tip Four: Save Some for Later
Walking around with a massive wad of cash stuck in your back pocket is going to get you unwanted attention. So, the top tip for all holiday makers – only take what you think you’ll need and leave the rest in your room. This way, you won’t make yourself a target and your money will remain safe.
For those who are super organised, why not put all of your euros on a card? You can usually get them from your holiday booker, and it acts rather like a debit card in that you have a pin number, which allows you to draw as little or as much as your need from an ATM machine. It’s a fantastic security asset, which if you can get your hands on, is a bonus.
Tip Five: Enjoy Yourself!
Now you’ve read up on how to be secure during your holiday, go and have some fun!
